We cherish the time-honored values handed down by our ancestors. As somewhat older parents, we gained ample life experience before stepping into parenthood. Raised primarily by our pre-war era grandparents, we inherited their rich knowledge and insights. This legacy, combined with our own experiences, has guided us on a journey of discovery and adventure. We share a passion for the outdoors, nature, and animals, alongside a desire to embrace a simple life, free from the pressures of the modern world.

In an ideal world, we’d have a small homestead, cultivating our own vegetables, raising animals, and perhaps leading a small business or community group. However, we’re currently residing on the outskirts of one of the UK’s largest cities, an environment that doesn’t truly fit us. We’ve never been party enthusiasts or corporate types. City life often feels noisy and overwhelming, and we yearn for moments when we can retreat to the countryside or the sea. There’s a soothing quality in listening to rain on a tent roof or watching waves crash against the shore.

In a world that moves fast, finding harmony between tradition and modern simplicity is the key to living fully and peacefully.

Cherished traditions like home-cooked family meals at the table, engaging in reading, drawing, playing board games, or building with Lego, and celebrating holidays in a simple, traditional manner, coexist beautifully with our curiosity about both historical and modern technology. We are driven by a natural instinct to teach and share our experiences, drawing comparisons between past and present lifestyles. While valuing tradition, we also embrace technology, achieving a perfect blend of the contemporary and the timeless.

Our lifestyle and parenting style reflect our values. We spend our days exploring the country’s offerings—visiting museums, enjoying nature walks, and engaging in craft activities. If we decide to stay closer to home, we indulge in cooking, reading, writing, or artistic pursuits. Evenings are reserved for relaxation, whether through personal hobbies, cozying up with a movie, or watching the night sky in hopes of spotting a shooting star and contemplating our life’s journey. We harness modern technology and the internet to expand our knowledge, quickly seeking information on a whim, be it a dream, a weather change, or something from the news. Inspiration surrounds us, and we’re always eager to discover answers online or through our experiences.

Our home embraces a minimalist aesthetic, featuring neutral walls and floor coverings complemented by landscape artwork that adds interest to the rooms. We focus on minimizing decor, experimenting with textures and natural elements to bring a sense of nature indoors. Bright neon colors would seem out of place in this setting. Although our decluttering journey is ongoing, we are gradually starting to enjoy the results of our efforts.

Adjusting our lifestyle

Our lifestyle is centered on honoring traditional values while fully embracing modern living. By taking the time to slow down, reflect, and spend quality time as a family, we achieve this balance. Recently, we decided to home educate our daughter. This decision was influenced by her traumatic school experience and our realization of the benefits we observed during the Covid lockdowns and school holidays. We found that the structured nature of traditional schooling conflicted with our values. Thus, transitioning to full-time home education was a natural choice, lifting a significant burden and allowing us to live authentically.

Thus, my final suggestion to you is to listen to your inner voice, embrace life as it was naturally meant to be lived, and never hesitate to break free from conventional boundaries. Remember, life is fleeting, so seize every opportunity to make it truly meaningful. Grow by immersing yourself in various experiences and generously share the wisdom and insights you gain with those who matter most to you. Life is for living, so go out there and live life to the max.
